Had a 2000pt friendly last weekend, my BA vs his Ynnari. Was a good game that really came down to a handful of good/bad rolls, and I got to use my new Leviathan
My List:
Vanguard Detachment:
Hq: Terminator Captain with TH/SS
Troops: Tactical Squad triple plasma, Tactical Squad triple flamer (Rhino)
Elites: TH/SS Terminators, DC Dred
Heavy Support: Land Raider Crusader, Baal Predator, Leviathan Siege Dreadnought
Auxiliary Detachment:
Vindicare Assassin
I'm not sure of the exact forces that my friend was using but it went something like this:
Hq: Farseer on Jetbike, Archon
Troops: Guardians
Elites: Harlequins, Incubi
Fast Attack: Jetbikes, 2 venoms
Heavy Support: 2 War Walkers, Raider/Ravager, Wraithguard (Wave Serpent)
Flyer: Hemlock Wraithfighter
I took first turn, moved my army forward and the Vindicare fired the first shot at the enemy Farseer. I rolled a 1. Command Point to the rescue. I then rolled a 6. Followed by another 6 to wound. Ap didn't allow any saves and invulns are ignored. Then rolled another 6 for damage and got First Blood and Slay the Warlord. Good times. Leviathans Storm Cannon shredded a War Walker and the LR and Predator removed a couple of flyer wounds.
Ynnari turn 1: everything advanced and deleted the Plasma Tactical's set up on my left field objective and my Baal Predator.
BA turn 2: Wave Serpent was right in front of me and had the 5 Wraithguard in it. I think every 40k player has heard those horror stories. But I had my termis in the LR so all I had to do was destroy the Serpent and I would have a guaranteed charge against them. So I fired literally everything at the Serpent and couldnt fucking kill it. Destroyed it in the ensuing assault phase.
Ynnari turn 2: Fearing the damage that the TH/SS termis could do, Darren fired his entire army against them and killed a grand total of 1 of them. Boy did I feel a bit better after that. His Archon, fed up with the armies inability to kill them charged with the Incubi and wiped them down to the Sergeant. As the Archon turned around to gloat, the sergeant proceeded to brain him right through his 2+ invuln as Darren immediately rolled a 1 on the first save he had to take.
BA turn 3. Flame Tacticals, DC Dred, Leviathan and LR mopped up the Harlequins, Incubi and everything else near assault and the guardians and Wraithguard
Ynnari turn 3: Wraithfighter destroyed DC Dred, and the remainder of the army took pot shots and spread out to objectives.
BA turn 4: Began to chase down the enemies who were running away, Leviathan destroying some venoms.
Ynnari turn 4: Conceded
In the end it rather fluffily ended with the Eldar retreating because my marines were just too tough. The Leviathan and LR had only taken about 4 wounds between them and were still throwing out insane firepower. My tactical squad was holding his table side objective, so all I had to do was make sure I could stop him from taking any more objectives, which was fairly easy as I was in the process of removing him from several and he just didn't have the staying power. I had also had first blood, slay the warlord and linebreaker.
It was a close game though hinging on a couple of close turns. Sorry if its a bit confusing to read, Im doing it all off of memory a couple of days later. But it was great game with some good highlights (mostly incompetence).

Thoughts on cover mechanics
So several FAQ's in and we have a problem with cover. I do enjoy the new streamlined cover mechanics in 8th, because boy was that bloated in 7th, but there is a serious problem in 8th for vehicles. Vehicles must be 50% obscured to receive the benefit of cover. That's the first bit and it's good and makes sense. But they must also be in terrain for this to take effect. So all I can think of is a situation where you have a massive LOS blocking terrain feature and your vehicle sits behind it, 99% obscured by it, with just a little sticking out, and you don't get a save because it's not in a terrain feature. In my opinion this is a silly oversight by GW, and I hope they see the error soon.

Edited Blood Angels list
Due to the odd business practices of my FLGS and his GW supplier, I still don't have any red spray, and so have not been able to get my Stormraven's even table ready. So I have revised my list for a game this weekend, and for the first time since I bought them and painted them up, not only will an assassin be gracing the table, but an entire Assassinorum Force.
Patrol Detachment -
HQ - Terminator Captain
Troops - 2 Tactical Squads
Elites - Assault Terminators
Fast Attack - Assault Squad
Heavy Support - Baal Predator, Land Raider Crusader
Vanguard Detachment
HQ - Lemartes
Elites - Death Company, Vindicare Assassin, Calidus Assassin, Eversor Assassin, Culexus Assassin
A Total of 1995 pts/118 PL and 4 CP
The entire army is painted up with the exception of a Tactical squad which requires some last finishing touches, and Lemartes and his Death Company, which are in various states of completion. The army is entirely WYSIWYG (except for the Terminator Ancient who is just a normal Terminator and was built and painted before 8th)
Will update on how the game went in a couple of days, unless of course I just end up playing a small friendly against a mate.

Back from holiday, looking to put those Blood Angels on the table.
Been back from from my holiday for a little bit now, and immediately got sick. Should have planned for it really, but hopefully that gets it out of the way for the rest of term. Due to a delay in paints at my FLGS (and my cold), my cheesy double Stormraven list has not yet hit the table, but I have put some work into the second tactical squad, and a Land Raider Crusader, both of which are nearly finished. If the paint comes in this week I hope to be able to get the Stormraven's at least table ready for my first real game of 8th this coming weekend, as they are still not fully assembled due to painting that darn clear plastic. At the moment my list looks like this:
Lemartes - 1/2 done
Terminator Captain TH/SS - done
Tactical Squad (H Flamer, Flamer, Combi-Flamer, Sword) - done
Tactical Squad (Plasma Cannon, Plasma gun, Combi-plas, Sword) - just needs basing and some small details
Assault Terminators TH/SS - done
Death Company (6 models, 2 Mauls, 1 Axe - 1/4 done
Assault Squad (2x Meltaguns, Inferno Pistol, Sword) - done
Baal Predator (Assault Cannons and Heavy Bolters) - done
Rhino - done
Stormraven (Assault Cannons, Heavy Bolters, Hurricanes)
Stormraven (Lascannons, Multi-meltas)
All fits nicely into a 2000 point battalion detachment (provided you split one of the tacticals into 2 small 5 man squads, but its so much neater to write it like I do). Plan is to murder things with the Stormravens and Pred whilst also getting them close enough to drop off the Terminators and the flame squad to bring pain. DC and Lemartes assault out of reserve with Lemartes' rerolls and command points, and the assault squad to play mind games and hopefully pop and juicy target, if I'm lucky. Plas tacs to secure objectives and give some fire support with Rhino. I think its a fairly balanced list, and the double cheese is alleviated somewhat by the balance. That being said my meta is made up of friends who don't mind all that much. And they are also friends who play Ynnari, Imperial Guard, and Dark Eldar, so who are they to judge? Let me know what you think of the list.

Recast Mourngul and thoughts
I would like to begin this article with a statement. I am Australian. If you do not understand why this is important when considering my viewpoint on recasts, then you need to google "Why is Warhammer so expensive in Australia" and read one of the 1,100,000 results that pop up in google.
Anyway, I have no qualms at all when it comes to buying recasts (except to my FLGS, but he doesn't sell Forgeworld). So when I began gaining interest in Age of Sigmar, and had a look at Death, which eventually led me to looking at the Mourngul, I fell in love with the model. The fact that its rules are just plain nasty is a bonus. So between seeing it and hearing about the imminent release of Path to Glory, I wanted one. So I checked out my local recaster, who I have used several times to buy things such as Blood Angel's doors and shoulder pads, and found that they indeed sold it for the measly price of $33 AUD with free shipping. to compare this to buying it legitimately from Forgeworld, it would cost in the area of $75 AUD (including shipping). Now that I have the model I can say that the quality is fantastic. The model looks great and there is nowhere I see any lost detail. I have had problems in the past with some of their Blood Angel doors (to be fair they are older sculpts, with lots of thin small detail), but this is flawless. There are some joins that could be a tad more flush, but that's just the nature of resin, and a splodge of greenstuff would fix that no problem. What are your thoughts on recasting?

A new blog!
Hi guys, this is my blog. I am a long term 40k player (with a bit of a break in the middle) excited for 8th edition like everyone else. Will be posting content about my thoughts on the game, my strategies and gameplay and painting tutorials. I will be posting about building armies as I break into new systems such as Age of Sigmar and 30k, in addition to my 40k armies. Hope to be posting soon.
